More about Bar Codes

The bar codes earlier represented data in the lines and the spacing in parallel lines, also referred to as linear of one dimensional bar codes. Bar codes also come in patterns of squares, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns within images termed 2D (2 dimensional) matrix codes. Although 2D systems use symbols other than bars, they are generally referred to bar codes as well.

It is known that the first use of bar codes was to automate the supermarket checkout systems, and this has become now a common sight and usage across the world. To make these bar codes there are various bar coding equipments that are available in the market.

Bar codes can be read by bar code equipment called optical scanners called bar code readers, or scanned from an image by special software. In Japan, most mobile phones have built-in scanning software for 2D codes, and similar software is being offered on Smartphone platforms.

There are various bar code equipments available such as bar code scanners
, bar code printers, and mobile computers also are now forming a part of bar code equipments.

The best bar code scanners are specially designed to deliver high-end performance at the lowest possible price. The scanner utilizes exceptional decoding technology. One-time settings are easily made by scanning set-up bar codes in the handy user's manual. For non-contact environments or for larger bar codes this bar code equipment can scan bar codes of up to 4.7 inches in length at a distance of 4.7 inches for an economical alternative to laser scanning.

Scanner contains no moving parts and is exceptionally lightweight and designed to fit comfortably in the hand for extended periods of usage. A cable on the scanner is detachable for easy replacement or the use of multiple interfaces. The scanner enables quick contact scanning of bar codes up to 3.5 inches in length. With scan rate of 150 scans per second low-quality or damaged bar codes as well as small or high-density bar codes can be read with exceptional speed and accuracy.
